About Mighty Jo's...

Name...

Mighty Jo's was suggested by my sister Liza, I thought it was catchy and fun, particularly since I'm a tiny five foot nothing in my trainers.

Inspiration...

Latin: Inspiratus; Divine breath

I was quite active, walking and gardening, going to the gym to do cardio (and not particularly enjoying it), all the while my son was telling me how great weight training is (he has been doing it for years and is ripped); I still didn't think it was for me.

Then I hit menopause and for the sake of bone density I thought I'd give it a go.  My son spent a lot of time coaching me on exercises, and how I should change my diet to protein based.

I'd been following a predominantly low-carb diet for years and found it a great fit for my body, but I'd slowly been increasing my fat intake (I love cheese) along with more carb, and was pushing over 9 1/2 stone.

Using a food tracker app, I switched my diet and began training with weight.

It has quite simply changed my life.  I'm now 7 1/2 stone and have some pretty decent muscle tone.  I feel better than I've ever felt.

The change in only one year is something that I would not have believed possible.

Find a job that you love, and you'll never work another day in your life

I can't remember where I heard that, it was a few years ago and it has played on my mind, because I've never felt a calling, so didn't believe that it could be me.

But things have happened over this past year which seem to be telling me to do something different, almost pushing me down a road.  I've been scurrying around trying to find the fit, then it occurred to me, there is one place I would like to spend my days (and probably into the evening), the gym.

I'd like to spend my days with like-minded people, and offer the kind of friendly, welcoming and fun environment that I'd have felt comfortable attending and learning in; If I hadn't been lucky enough to have my son to guide me I may never have started.

I plan to offer gym instruction and personal training sessions, I'd love to work with other women who have hit the wall of menopause; we don't need to feel so awful.

Place...

My plan is for bright white space, with dark floors and several splashes of neon.

Equipment will be tailored to weight training, body building and sculpting, with stretch out spaces.

Space permitting we'll have a coffee area for conversation, and a small kitchen where we can prepare protein based snacks or drinks, there will be chocolate.

We'll be open 24/7.

Moving Forward...

All I need is the right place, the right equipment, and the right amount of cash.. just the small things :)
